Dar al-Kalima University is completing all preparations for an academic dialogue in Chile

Dar al-Kalima University has completed all preparations for an academic dialogue entitled " Christianity Zionist and Religious, Political and Economic Fundamentalism: A Palestinian-Latin American Conversation", in which a wide selection of academic scholars and prominent religious and societal figures will participate, as well as a number of journalists and activists from Palestine and Latin America, from 4 to November 11, 2022 in the province of Santiago in Chile, and will also be held virtually via (Zoom) technology.

Rev. Prof. Dr. Mitri Raheb, the founder and president of Dar al-Kalima University says: "In the last three decades, Latin America has witnessed an ebb and flow of the religious right, including Christian Zionism, as well as the political right, represented by Brazilian President Bolsinaro. Therefore, this conference constitutes an important opportunity to promote academic and political dialogue between Palestine and Latin America, in addition to networking with universities, colleges and various research centers".

The goal of this dialogue is to explore the various issues that affect the future of countries in the Middle East and Latin America. It will bring together religious and academic leaders from both Palestine and Latin America. The event will also strengthen the ties between the two regions.

The dialogue will also explore the relationship between religious fundamentalism and Christian Zionism in Latin America along with the role of the mass media in the creation of fundamentalist narratives. Some of the key issues that confront the region include the militarization of social control and the misappropriation of sacred texts.

Before the dialogue, the participants will visit various groups and individuals in Chile, such as government officials, religious groups, and participants of the recent constituent assembly. They will also meet with the government, the press, and religious and civil society groups to discuss the results of the discussion after the dialogue.

The dialogue is organized by Dar al-Kalima University (Bethlehem, Palestine), Evangelical Theological Community of Chile (CTE), Alliance of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches of Latin America (AIPRAL), World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), Presbyterian Church (USA), and Global Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)/United Church of Christ.
